Volta news? Is there any?

AMD is very important on two fronts, that i think most people dont realize.  They are the only thing preventing monopolies in consumer cpus and gpus. They fold up,  we are all screwed. So intel and nvidia do have an interest in the survivial of AMD, so i will always root for their survival, but this vega launch is a debacle.  Year too late, still using over hyped/expensive memory, and under performing year old competition.

On a serious note I do agree, ryzen was perfectly timed (no serious intel improvements in 3 generations, bad IHS TIM and no change in corecount on mainstream since gen 2)

Nvidia hasn't been as complacent as intel and it really shows.  They are just going to sit on Volta until NAVI is a credible threat and then blow our little ape brains with its power.  Then they will sit on the next gen until it's got incoming competition and again, they'll blow it out of the water with tech they've had at the ready for 1 - 2 years.

Rinse and repeat until some kind of massive paradigm shift occurs or amd stops making gpu's.

Want to custom loop?  Ask me more if you are curious

I know the die is smaller, but I'm not sure that it's a refresh.  If it was just a refresh, it wouldn't be as large as a difference in performance as it is. Don't quote me on any of this, though.

It mostly is very similar to Maxwell. Higher efficiency allowed for higher clocks at same or lower power draw = more perf.
