Best time to buy a phone?

Allshevski

Say I have a phone I want to buy (Moto G5 Plus), but I kinda don't know how the market for smartphones works.

Should I wait till the next generation comes out so it becomes cheaper, or just buy a new model for the same price, or should I buy it now since there aren't any releases soon or the price wouldn't change anyway?

btw tell me if it's a good value for money phone, on the surface it has everything I could ever ask for, but I wonder if Lenovo P2 would be a better option since it has a far larger battery. But for the P2 I would have to wait at least 3 months..

I need S340. But more Define S'ish

if you can afford to buy new generation it is probably worth it as long as you don't smash your phone to bits when you get it because it should last you at least 3 - 4 years. But more like 5 or 6. If you are looking for a cheaper option, wait until the new generation comes out and get the old generation beacause it will still have decent specs and features just not quite as good as the brand new stuff. Also an advantage with going with old stuff is that you know that it will work. Remember note 7.

New phone releases are always just around the corner, so if you wait for the next thing, you'll just want to wait for the next and then the next and get stuck in a loop.

I'd advise waiting until a sale period such as Christmas or just after, in the January sales and see what's around at that time.

well I would still buy note 7 lol, only if they didn't force you to recall them

I forgot to mention that I really don't want to wait. I mean currently I have Galaxy S2+, which is like 6 years old, and while I could push it a couple of months, I'm really tired of it, now the school also starts and you know. Hence this post, I really need a solid argument I guess, or I'm buying the Moto on sale today maybe even. Been waiting till the next gen comes out for 2 years now.

Don't wanna be that guy who asks for advice and then ignores it but as I said, I don't also wanna make too big of a mistake and you are the experts here.

The Moto is on sale right now, and I don't want for the sale to be over and get stuck for another couple of months lol. Still I will wait for some more replies and decide.

If you don't want to wait, buy now. The G5 Plus has already been replaced by the G5s Plus. So it might see a price drop pretty soon, the G5 recently saw a $50 price drop. It does, of course, depend on the stores where you live.

In general, the best time to buy a phone is when you need one. There are releases every year. Like @Oshino Shinobu said, you'll just get stuck if you're always waiting for it to become cheaper with new releases. There's always something better just around the corner.

just compared them and the difference is tiny, I mean it has dual cameras, (which is a gimmick, plus they are both f2.0 vs f1.7, which may not matter but whatever), slightly better selfie cam, slightly bigger screen and relatively slightly thinner bezels, but that's all. Plus it isn't even on the market yet, so sure there will be no sales in months on this phone.

I made up my mind, ordering G5 Plus. Thanks guys by the way, really nice community ^^

Or maybe there are alternatives? I doubt it, the closest I got was some chinese "Ulefone Future", but it has a couple of flaws from what I've read.

Tiny to you maybe, but substantial to others. The dual camera might be quite a bit better, and personally 5.2 inch screen are way too small. Also dual cameras are not a gimmick, they have very tangible advantages depending on how they're used.

By your logic the G5 shouldn't be on sale either becasue the G5s hasn't been released, yet it is. So. You're wrong there too. ;)

The G5 Plus is a good lower-mid tier device though, I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

have been living with 4.3" screen for quite a long time and it's enough for me, but that's personal preference. not a professional photographer also, taking pictures only occasionally. and I was saying that I predict that G5s won't be on sale for a couple of months since it's so new, maybe the price will drop at first like with any new phone, but nothing more. anyways thanks <3
