First off, it happens on both wired and wireless connections. It seems to only happen to me in the house. It happens seemingly at complete random times. Attached is a screen shot of what the trouble shooter says, although it cant fix it...

Apparently i may have to manually type in the ip address'? I literally know nothing about this stuff, help?

Thanks

Go into the properties of the network adapter, select the IPv4 thingy and go to properties, make sure the IP and DNS option are set to automatic.

Also open cmd and type in "ipconfig /all" and post what it responds.

Do other devices that are connected to the router via a wire work?

Can you connect something else to the wire that's connected to the PC?

The issue is that your pc wants an IP from a DHCP server, usually this is something the router takes care of but for some reason the pc can't connect to the DHCP server.

Are both wired and wireless connections to the same router?

My guess atm is that the cable is dead or something.

Download the diagnostic program from here: http://www.realtek.com/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=13&PFid=5&Level=5&Conn=4&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false and check the cable with that. It's not ideal but it's something.

Both wired and wireless connections are to the same router. The weird thing is this happed to my old laptop (pre-built), i ended up building my own PC recently, but now having the same problem. When i was using the laptop, i was using a different cable so i dont think its that.

I guess it's a derpy router in that case.

Have you tried to plug in the cable into another port on the router?

You can always to the lazy way and configure a static IP, it bypasses the DHCP issue but it's possible the DHCP issues are the result of something else failing and not the cause of the problem.

If you want to configure it, go to the properties of the wired adapter, ipv4, properties, manually configure IP

IP address: 192.168.1.20 (i assume that's not in use, if you have more than 20 devices connected the number might need to be higher)

Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0

Gateway: 192.168.1.254

DNS shouldn't be required but if the above doesn't work you can always change it to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 and see if that works.
