Extending Asus router antena

just_dave

Hey guys, i am still thinking how i can get better wifi signal and ive came up with an idea, my Asus RT-N18U has three antenas, what if i would connect a cable to one of the ports and route it to the ground floor so i would have a signal everywhere and wouldn´t have to spen $350 for Google Wifi thingies.

Thanks

You could try, but IDK how good that would work. Just look for an SMA extension lead (probably 50ohm)

Also, $350 for google wifi??? That seems expensive, what currency is that?

Also, my ISP provided VDSL2 modem is complete crap, what if i would use ASUS DSL-AC52U on the floor with VDSL outlet and put my actual RT-N18U as wifi range extender

Well if you're ISP modem is crap, get a better modem, and run and Ethernet cable downstairs. The asus dsl-wehatever router would work, however you would have to run a Ethernet line around your house.

Maybe a simpler solution is top get a paper house like everyone else xd.

Yeah, if you run an Ethernet cable between them, it will work. Trying to do it via wifi probably won't work for the very reason you are having this issue, and most routers don't support it, without a bit of hacking.

Thanks for all your support man, ive gathered as much info as i can and it seems that i will switch to google wifi completely, i will use 3 points (recommended by Google site) and have better coverage with consistent speed. I have the problem that i use VDSL modem as bridge, but thanks to the VDSL i can´t go over 24 mbit/s. I will wait since in my town there are few FTTH cables already and if there is a reconstruction in our street maybe they will lay them so i can switch to optic. One last question, does google wifi have PC based acces software/UI or only the smartphone app?

Most networking gear is controlled via a web brower, so generic to PC/mac/phone.

But I think google wifi has the "google home" app.

Stay away from the windsurfer thing. I tried it once, worked (kind of), but not well enough to justify the time and nuisance factor.

Glad you've got it sorted.
