If you do want to do these things use Apples Logic and Final Cut for the best experience. I would use external USBC/Thunderbolt drives (like this one) to store mass data so you can save some cash upfront and get the 256GB SSD.  (apparently you can get 512GB minimum lol)

Laptop: 2019 16" MacBook Pro i7, 512GB, 5300M 4GB, 16GB DDR4 | Phone: iPhone 13 Pro Max 128GB | Wearables: Apple Watch SE | Car: 2007 Ford Taurus SE | CPU: R7 5700X | Mobo: ASRock B450M Pro4 | RAM: 32GB 3200 | GPU: ASRock RX 5700 8GB | Case: Apple PowerMac G5 | OS: Win 11 | Storage: 1TB Crucial P3 NVME SSD, 1TB PNY CS900, & 4TB WD Blue HDD | PSU: Be Quiet! Pure Power 11 600W | Display: LG 27GL83A-B 1440p @ 144Hz, Dell S2719DGF 1440p @144Hz | Cooling: Wraith Prism | Keyboard: G610 Orion Cherry MX Brown | Mouse: G305 | Audio: Audio Technica ATH-M50X & Blue Snowball | Server: 2018 Core i3 Mac mini, 128GB SSD, Intel UHD 630, 16GB DDR4 | Storage: OWC Mercury Elite Pro Quad (6TB WD Blue HDD, 12TB Seagate Barracuda, 1TB Crucial SSD, 2TB Seagate Barracuda HDD)

You have a great point even considering that its 4 times the size and 200$ cheaper

May I ask what kind of video editing you might be doing? You could save a good amount by getting a 13" MacBook Pro instead. If you are doing 1080/1440p editing or even light 4K editing, Final Cut and a Mac similar to this one: https://www.apple.com/shop/buy-mac/macbook-pro?product=MPXV2LL/A&step=config# will do very well.

  • Touch Bar and Touch ID
  • 3.1GHz dual-core 7th-generation Intel Core i5 processor, Turbo Boost up to 3.5GHz
  • 8GB 2133MHz LPDDR3 memory
  • 256GB SSD storage
  • Intel Iris Plus Graphics 650
  • Four Thunderbolt 3 ports

Get that and the external drive I mentioned and that's one banging computer my friend. You can use the difference of what you would have paid to buy Final Cut ,Logic and and adapters you might need.

depends on your workflow? are you going to be working with other people? what software have you used in the past? what options do you need? advanced color grading? etc etc. If it's for minor edits Macbook will be great. I have 0 clue how good Logic Pro is but that is depedent on what audio software you use and what needs to be generated.

tl;dr depends on your use case.

Laptop Main

(Retired) Zbook 15: i7-6820HQ, M2000M, 32gb, 512gb SSD + 2tb HDD, 4k Dreamcolor

(Retired) Alienware 15 R3: i7-6820HK, GTX1070, 16gb, 512 SSD + 1tb HDD, 1080p

(Retired) T560: i7-6600U, HD520, 16gb, 512gb SSD, 1620p

(Retired) P650RS: i7-6820HK, 1070, 16gb, 512gb + 1tb HDD, 4k Samsung PLS

(Retired) MBP 2012 Retina: i7-3820QM, GT650M, 16gb, 512gb SSD, 1800p

  • 4 months later...

Excuse me, a Macbook pro without 13-inch touch bar, Core i5, 256gb SSD and 16GB of RAM for music production will be more than enough? I will use a lot of sampled instruments like kontakt and many effects, as well as playing live. Will it be more than enough? Of course I would buy an external ssd of 2 tb.
