So long story short I've decided to build an extreme high end AMD Threadripper system, and have begun buying parts bit by bit to achieve this goal. This will be my first ever PC build, and I want to make it as balls to the walls as is humanly possible. And since I am (obviously) A glutton for punishment, I put together a partslist for this monster so that you may all revel in my lack of ability to manage money. Also it should go without saying that if any of you can point me to a place where I can buy/ sell me any parts for cheap that would be greatly appreciated.

why multiple 850 evos? buy a larger capacity

why multiple 1tb wd blacks? buy a larger capacity

why so many fans?

why 2 165hz monitors?

dont know if a 600p intel ssd is good or not, never heard of it

why nominator platinum?

Ryzen 5 3600 stock | 2x16GB C13 3200MHz (AFR) | GTX 760 (Sold the VII)| ASUS Prime X570-P | 6TB WD Gold (128MB Cache, 2017)

Samsung 850 EVO 240 GB

138 is a good number.

I am well aware that my choices aren't exactly practical.

The multiple drives of each type are so I can throw them all in RAID and have a bit of redundancy.

The MANY fans are part aestetics, part noctua bragging rights, and part because I want to do Push Pull on each 480 rad.

I want a triple monitor setup, using the two 165 Hz for a dual monitor gaming setup and the 4K for content consumption.

PCPP Parametric filter picked it out.

for ssds i dont think you need that much redundancy, SSDs take forever to kill by write cycles,

i dont think double monitor gaming would be fun, the bezels would kill it for me

If your spending that much on a PC why not windows 10 pro? I would get it from kinguin too.

Have you tried turning it off and on again?

Yeah I MAY cut it down to two 1 TB SSDs in the future.

To each his own, it doesn't bother me too much. (Tried it on a buddies system)

Shhh it's fine.

My reasoning kinda goes, Since im spending so much money if something doesn't make me go WOW THATS COOL I'm gonna cut it and spend a bit more money somewhere else, or just build the system a bit earlier because I won't need to save so much.

Yeah I see several problems right off the bat here

  • Multiple SSDs
    • I know you said you want RAID but do you really?  The one and only thing RAID is uniquely good at protecting against is drive failure.  If you can afford to rebuild your OS in the (very) unlikely event of a failure, you don't need RAID.
    • And if you do go RAID, I'd suggest getting a UPS too, since losing power is never good for it.  You'll want a big one.
  • Multiple HDD
    • The same raid comment as above applies, but there's an additional problem here: 1 TB drives are really wasteful, like getting an R7 240.  The sweetspot for $/GB is 3 or 4 TB right now, not 1
  • Multiple keyboards
    • this requires no more explanation... just, what?
  • Probably too many fans
    • they will make noise and heat and you don't need that many to keep things cool I'm sure
  • Two headphones/headsets
    • again, why?

Solve your own audio issues  |  First Steps with RPi 3  |  Humidity & Condensation  |  Sleep & Hibernation  |  Overclocking RAM  |  Making Backups  |  Displays  |  4K / 8K / 16K / etc.  |  Do I need 80+ Platinum?

If you can read this you're using the wrong theme.  You can change it at the bottom.

I see another problem specifically about the headphones.  No one just up and buys 800Ss out of the blue, you have to really care about audio.  In which case you will have a fancy DAC & amp alreay, or be planning to buy one, but I don't see that in the list.

Your monitor choices also don't make any sense.  Are you doing a surround build?  Doesn't seem like it since they're all different frequency.  Are you doing one gaming monitor and one professional monitor?  Again, doesn't look like it since you have two of the gaming ones... what is your plan?

Can you recommend a good UPS? I Already bought the hard drives, but I got them for less than half of market value.

Different usecases for each keyboard/ headset, and therefore different features, macro functionality, etc.

And as for the fans, I'm going to be running them at the lowest pwm settings, a luxury afforded by my massive radspace ant multitude of fans.
