Picking out ram for new build

I'm trying to decide between an Intel 5930k, and intel says Ram at 2133

OR.....an Intel 6850x and intel says Ram with 2400

Can I get Ram with 3333 for any of the two above as long as my mobo can handle it? I've got an ASUS x99 Deluxe II

No matter what you do, just ensure the ram you do get is on the motherboard's QVL.

Quote me next time. Do you already have the motherboard? If not, I would get a Ryzen processor. LGA 2011-3 is dead. Those processors you mentioned compete with the Ryzen 5 1600 ($200) and the Ryzen 7 1700 ($300).

Yes I have the ASUS X99 Deluxe II and I should say that I'm not much of a gamer but have a business doing video rendering

technically running the ram over the cpus spec is overclocking it, but they'll do over 4000 fine. As for what ram to get, as long as you get ram from a decent manufacturer it should work, intel cpus aren't very picky about ram

for video rendering it would probably be cheaper (and around 20% faster) to go with a Ryzen 7 1700 ($290 if you look around) and a new motherboard based on the X370 or B350 chipset which will set you back $130 - $250. I think that combined is still less than a 6850K

LGA 2011-3 is dead, but about 3 years later the xeons will flood ebay and it will be relevant again. If you want to save money now buy an X99 board for $100-$150 (they are cheap now) and hold onto it. Then plop a xeon in it when the time comes

i've often strayed from a mobo's QVL and not really run into issues thus far. That being said, if possible stick to it, just in case.

Also, if you find a used 6900k, they're damn good processors. I think it was Hardware Unboxed that just put out a video comparing the 7820X, 6900k and the Ryzen 7 1700. The newest 8-core from intel seemed the least favorable option overall. R7 1700 trades blows with the 6900k with the 6900k edging out in performance slightly. The Ryzen offerings are definitely worth note if you want the cores and more than fair performance for the dollar. It definitely takes patience and forum reading to fully optimize them, though. 

basically, Haswell-E is a higher overclocker, while Broadwell-E is basically the same at about 400-500MHz lower clocks (IPC gains).
 

but a 6850k is also a solid option if you're less likely to overclock.
