My Possibly future desktop?

JinnyBoi

Hey guys.

So basically I got a budget of 1650$ to build a desktop. What do you think of it?

CPU: i7-7700k

CPU Cooler: NZXT Kraken x62

Motherboard: Asus Strix B250F

RAM: G Skill Trident Z RGB  16GB (2x8)

Storage: SSD: Samsung 850 EVO "2.5" 250GB HDD: Hitachi Ultrastar 72000RPM "3.5" 1TB

GPU: Asus Strix GeForce GTX 1080

CASE: NZXT S340 Elite (BLACK)

PSU: Corsair CXM450M 80+ Bronze (450W)

Total wattage is about 400W. So I thought to get a Power Supply just a little more the wattage then need. Is it alright? I'm no computer geek and this is my first time building, so I'd like some advice! Anything would be appreciated.

You've got an unlocked CPU but a locked board. I would switch to an Z270 board.

At least get the pro M version that has TG!

Could probably step down the PSU to a EVGA B3 or a cx#50m gray label

Or if you really want intel  wait for coffee lake and get a 6 core hyperthreaded i7 with great out-of-box core frequency AND OC ability as well.

This helped me a lot! But I'm not sure what you meant by locked motherboard and unlocked CPU. Is it possible to take the motherboard you chose for the AMD and stuff it in with the intel build? I would also like to stick with the case I chose because of the looks. I mean both cases look good but I'd prefer the one I chose out in the beginning. Are they possible? I'm sorry if I am being picky because I care a lot about the looks. Thanks though for spending your time writing all of this down

PS. I was trying to get with a Color scheme with Orange/Black. If I forgot to mention.

Thanks!

Thanks!

So, H and B series boards cannot do overclocking so they are considered "locked" and -K series CPUs can overclock so they're considered "unlocked". A locked CPU doesn't have the K in the name and cannot overclock.

You cannot use the same board between Intel and AMD but I can find the same style board and update the list if you want. You can definitely stick with your case, I was just providing options :)

Let me adjust and see if I can do better with the Orange/Black scheme

I just saw your post about doing a lot of photoshop and whatnot.

If that benefits more from multiple cores over raw clock speed, I would go Ryzen based. You could swap the 1600 for a 1700 and get an 8 core 16 thread for not much more.

But from what I know, Intel absolutely slaps Ryzen in the face when it comes to rendering and whatnot

Wow, never realized it since I don't dabble with that stuff but from what I can see at quick glance, Intel still is the better choice for most of that work.

Yea. At first I was planning on getting AMD because my friends are like bro AMD is amazing for gaming. At first I thought if it was good at gaming, it would be good at all the other stuff I would usually do. Well turns out it wasn't.

adobe is more lightly-threaded, so the 7700k would still perform better as it's got higher IPC compared to ryzen.

What monitor will you be using?

If it's 1080p and 60hz then a gtx 1080 is a waste of money.

What monitor will you be using?

If it's 1080p and 60hz then a gtx 1080 is a waste of money.

I use the Acer R1

I just saw your post about doing a lot of photoshop and whatnot.

If that benefits more from multiple cores over raw clock speed, I would go Ryzen based. You could swap the 1600 for a 1700 and get an 8 core 16 thread for not much more.

Hey can you take a look at my build and my friends build on the same budget? Which is better?

Your build will do better at 1080p gaming with the 7700K.

Your friends will do better at 1440p gaming at higher refresh rates.

One change I made to both with regards to the PSU:
