Future of intel

Ok so, If the rumors are to be believed and this is pure speculation. If the top consumer i7 is going to be 6 cores and 12 threads, and the i5 is  going to be 6 cores.... does that make ... the i3 4 cores and 8 threads, and even further, does that mean the pentiums are going to be 4 cores? cause... jesus, lets talk about THAT SHIT for a minute

CFL has been planned for quite some time. This isn't exactly "news".

In other news, Intel will release their Pentium 2C/4T in the coming months.

Gotta love rumors, but I don't think Intel is looking to make that big of an upgrade to their lower tier procsessors for the fact it would increase the price. Then again, they might to stay competitive with AMDs core-heavy low end CPUs.

Mindshare is one hell of a drug. I'm fairly sure Intel will continue to do well, regardless of Ryzen's/Epyc's dominance.

And yes you can expect 6/12 units shipping at i5 prices because AMD is already delivering 6/12 units at i5 prices...

not how it works when intel's 6/12 will knock the socks off of the Ryzen counterpart. its gonna be a fair bit more expensive than an R5 1600 or 1600x for sure. If you're going to make a better product then you can  charge a higher price for it.

i5 and i3 will not have hyperthreading (unless they do special models like the 2c/4t or the 7350k shit again) Mostly just same core/thread counts

i3's are hyperthreaded.

i3's have always had hyper threading. they MAY choose to take it out in lieu of 4 physical cores being more mainstream.... but so far as i'm aware Intel has made no statement yet regarding the future of I3's...

I personally hope they come up with a new naming scheme. No sense branding the Core i series for the last decade to just start making shit up at this point lol.

I hope they bring something better than Skylake-X, because the 7800X isn't exactly knocking the socks off of the 1600X

And thanks for proving my point on Mindshare, you seem pretty excited about Intel again taking the lead.

I say they keep the naming scheme, using the CFL as their "definition" going forward, and including an i3 quad-core sans HT. Leaving the i5 as non-HT would be a good choice if the Pentium remains 2C/4T.

They never lost it. Intel still has the best CPU's on the market. They still have market share.... not sure how you think Intel is "losing" or "lost it". there is a good argument to be made for price:performance from Ryzen... a very good argument.... but they're not "better" lol.

it depends on your definition of better, mine is what is the best i can buy at X price, and right now for most use scenarios ryzen is clearly the better choice
