I'm playing around with the idea of building my own case with the goal to maximise airflow and minimise noise.

I would like to have 2 200 mm fans at the bottom for intake and 2 200mm fans at the top for exhaust.

Bitfenix 200mm fans seem to be the best option at ~150cfm and good static pressure atm, but I'd love it if you have alternatives.

However, my question is: with my current design ( see awesome mspaint art), there is a duct at the top and bottom of the case approx. 5x30 cm, will this be sufficiently open so that the fans can push air through the case efficiently?

From this photo it seems air will only be pulled from the back and exhausted out the rear. If thats the case, this would not be sufficient airflow. However if it included both sides as intakes as well as exhaust as well, then it would be sufficient, provided a good amount of space between the fan and the next physical surface (the feet of the case/ bottom of the floor and the top panel, respectively)

this is the fan I'm considering:

200mm
Dimensions (mm)    200x200x25mm
Current (A)    0.28A ±10%
Speed (RPM)    900 RPM ±10%
Air Flow (CFM)    148.72 CFM ±10%
Air Pressure (mmH2O)    1.26 mmH2O
Noise (dB-A)    27.5 dB(A)

@TVwazhere: how much bigger would you say the duct should be?

I should probably add, that the volume of the main compartment is ~3 cubic feet.

I've test run the "better" Bitfenix 200mm fan and its not that impressive. I ended with running NZXT OEM I was going to replace. So honestly better option would be getting some 140mm fan with good specs. Maybe Noctua, maybe FD or something other like that. I think there are several which have good CFM and yet are on silence side. Like Gentle Typhoons and something called Noiceblockers, EK Vardars too?

thanks, that's good to know. It's difficult to judge the quality of a fan from specs alone

I have a coolermaster megaflow 200 that I'm pretty happy with, so maybe I'll go with them.

I have considered 140mm fans - the 200mm ones just fit my "vision" of a case better atm.
