Suddely lost my 60fps on GTA V - GTX 1080

Liberty610
Go to solution Solved by Glennieboyyy007,

in advanced graphics the frame scaling mode is way up there. it now produces 2.5 times the 3440x1440. put it back to 1 or off or what the normal is. that should fix it. then you can also turn up the other settings. i can post a screen shot of my settings with my 1070 if you want, with almost everything maxed

Hey guys,

I am having a FPS issue with GTA V all of a sudden. I had stopped playing GTA V for a while, and just booted it up a couple weeks ago. I had this issue when I first started playing it, but I am not sure how or why it went away, but now it is back. I did go into Nvida Geforce and set it to 'Optimize' and thought that is what fixed it, but I have even tried that with no luck.

I was getting 60fps without any issues at every aspect of the game for the past week or so (I'm trying to go through the story mode now sence I have never finished it). I have been playing the game a lot, and am now 53% through the story mode. In ever scenerio of the enitre play though the last 2 weeks, I was getting a constant 60 fps, but now all of a sudden I am getting anywhere between 22 fps and 35fps. The only thing I can think that I have changed in my system is I updated to the Windows 10 Creative update. I booted the game and got 60 fps after the update the last time I played it, and just last night I was getting 60fps when I first staretd playing it, when all of a sudden it dipped down to 20 to 30, and not staying at a constant 30fps. I can't get it back to 60 no m,atter what I do.

It doesn't matter what I was doing in the game, I would ALWAYS get 60 fps. I have been running a small over clock on my GPU using MSI aAfterburner, but even booting the game up without that running I am now having this issue. I have done several restarts, used Ccleaner to clean up registry. I am running the latest drivers on my graphics card, latest BIOS on my motherboard. I have tried turning off Vsync, ect

In GTA's setting's menu, it shows I am not even using half of my cards memorey. The bar is solid green. Not yellow or red. As I stated, I completed half the game without ever going below 60fps in any scenerio (I use the small FPS counter in Steam). I was locked in at 60.

When I tab out of GTA V and look at the task manager, nothing is taking up CPU usage or ram. With GTA tabbed out, my CPU is getting 5% to 7% use which is normal under idle.

I am running at a higher resolution then most. I have an LG ultrawide monitor. So here is what I have setup wise:

-LG Ultrawide monitor running at 3440 x 1440 resolution connected to my graphics card via display port
-Intel i7 6800k
-MSI 1080 GTX 8gb
-32gb Of Quad Channel G. Skill ram

I don't know why, but I just all of a sudden lost my 60 fps. It booted up getting 60 fps last night, then about 5 minuetes into the game, it dropped, and I have been unable to get it back.I have attached images that show my current settings, and I am sure these are the same settings as I was running when I was getting a steady 60 fps because I was using Nvidia's Geforce optimize settings.

Any thoughts? as I stated, the only thing I can think of that has changed is, I am updated to Windows 10 creative, but I was still getting 60fps after the update. I even started at 60fps last night, when all of a sudden mid game it dropped.

check your nVidia control panel, make sure you do not have forced VSync in driver

in advanced graphics the frame scaling mode is way up there. it now produces 2.5 times the 3440x1440. put it back to 1 or off or what the normal is. that should fix it. then you can also turn up the other settings. i can post a screen shot of my settings with my 1070 if you want, with almost everything maxed

Dude, you are the man! I turned off all game DVR and Game mode options in Windows, but that didn't help. I went into advanced graphic settings, and turned down the fram scaling. Depending on what I choose I can get between 60 and 100+ frames. Trying to find the best happy medium!

If you could screen shot your settings, that would be cool, but I might be able to figure the rest out. I don't know why/how this happened, because I didn't change that setting to my knowledge. Thanks for all the replies guys!

the options that affected my framerate the most were: high resolution shadows (in advanced settings) and msaa (in normal settings). also i got v-sync on but i get a stable 60fps, if i turn it off i get even 100+ sometimes, remember i have a 1070 so your 1080 will do even better.
