Should i use sli

I am going to build a new pc for gaming and i dont know if i should use 2 1080ti with sli or just buy 1 gtx 1080ti

one 1080ti is probably enough to satisfy all but the most demanding gaming setups (talking triple 4k and the like here), i'd see the second one as more added hassle than benefit.

No, definitely not for gaming. It's a bit of a waste, as law of diminishing returns and not all games like SLI.

i'd consider triple 4k on its own to be in the field of diminishing returns.

Yeah the other guy is right, if you have that much money to go that high end and still don't know if you should go SLI, ie. don't know about the technical aspects of it, then you probably should not do it.

 

Also, you didn't list the specs of your monitors which is very important in determining the GPU horse power you need.

well.. comparing price to bragging rights.. past the first panel your cost goes up equally per panel, but amount of bragging rights doesnt go up equally anymore.

 

i wouldnt see why linus has 4 times the bragging rights for 16x 4k than for the 4x 4k setup he already did.

If you want 4K +60 fps then yes go for it. SLI support isn't as bad as people make out, but you're gonna want a fast CPU to support it, I'd consider a 7900k in this scenario to give you core future proofing and kaby lake ipc with some fast ram and a good x299 board

Ryzen is also a good option, and the AM4 socket will probs be supported longer. Though i9s do have clock speed and IPC on there side. Could go all out and get Threadripper though.

Not even Nvidia believes in SLI anymore, and games don't support it properly. Save your money.

 

1080Ti is plenty fast to play anything, why on earth would you need two? Did you win the lottery or something?
