Except that's like 4-5 years in the future? And op would probably be looking at upgrading in 3 years or so. Even if 1700 starts beating the 7700k in 4 years, that's 4 years for which the 7700k was winning and maybe 1-2 where the 1700 is winning.

 

Do more stuff at the same time? Stuff like discord and chrome don't use that much CPU anyways.

@DocSwag getting an r5 would open to so many possibilities like moar rgb. but since he could fit an r7 why not do it. who knows, he has a 4k monitor he could edit 4k footages as well

No room to grow is only true of i5s. The i7s usually are only around 70% CPU usage while gaming.

Absolutely true when comparing a Kaby Lake i5 with a Ryzen 5 however no where near as true when we go i7 vs r7, my i7 does not stutter on any game.
