So, I am an avid hiker and camper and am considering taking custard along on my next trip, however, most powdered custard packets instruct for it to be heated in a saucepan. I don't really want to waste camping stove fuel on such an insignificant dessert. Would it be okay for the powdered custard to be prepared and consumed cold without needing to heat it up or is there another form of boxed custard I should look for?

There's a powered custard and then an egg custard.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

In the UK you can get tinned custard, I'm not sure if it available anywhere else? It's not in the same league as fresh, made with the finest Madagascan vanilla, custard:x  but it holds up against the powdered stuff.

The powdered custard could be eaten cold, you do in trifles, but I'm not sure how long it would last out of the fridge.

Hmm, I may just purchase a box from the store and give it a shot.

Powdered is much easier to make and carry without any rubbish because I don't really like the prospect of carrying around a can that could go off.

thats roughing it

premake it and store it in containers.

Not sure how long that would last before mould grows because Australia is fairly toasty with regards to temperature.

Thanks all for your suggestions!
