Will this work with my prebuilt?

Go to solution Solved by rcarlos243,

Don't listen to the morons above giving you wrong info.

Your motherboard does support a Samsung 960 Pro.

Your motherboard has M.2 M-key PCIe 3.0 x4 with Skylake or Kabelake chip

I recommend you get a Samsung 960 EVO instead as it is cheaper than 960 PRO, but offers similar performance on consumer workloads.

Hello, I own a prebuilt Asus g20CB 970 computer. The HDD that come with it is very slow, requiring upwards of 5 minutes to load all of my programs. I am thinking of shelling out a lot of money to buy a 960 pro 1TB M.2 SSD. I am very certaint that my motherboard contains a m.2 slot, though I am double checking.

I just want to know if the size would work on it. I can never get some of the screws out and are already going to pay the geek squad 30$ to install it (Yes I know, I'm sorry.)

It is a pretty small case so I don't know if it is going to actually fit in. Thanks for all responses.

It only support Sata m.2, no point in buying an NVME for it (Sata is fine for gaming anyway, very little difference noticeable unless working with large files).

Please quote our replys so we get a notification and can reply easily. Never cheap out on a PSU, or I will come to watch the fireworks.

Ok, here is my link to my mb, I'm pretty sure I'm retarded because I just looked again and the m.2 slot is going sideways not up and down.

Oh really @rn8686? I thought that PCIE was always NVME. Thanks for saving me money :)

Nope, some only support sata drives. You can get an M.2 or there should also be an 2.5 slot in the case for a normal ssd.

@Thevgk

Yes I do have a lot of programs that I use, also after a few years it is starting to wear down a bit. Some games, like payday 2 in particular, have started to crash from it being too slow. And with my hybrid sleep mode, I would constantly get a BSOD when starting it back up from lost stored data on my hard drive.

@rn8686. Do you happen to know of any good 1TB M.2 Sata drives?

Or do you think that I should just stick with a 850 pro 2.5'?

Only one I can see on newegg is the 850 Evo, doesnt really matter if you get 2.5 or M.2 though as they are really the same (Assuming both are sata based).

Just realised I missed a few drives, if you want to save you could get the MX 300 which is very good value and performs similar.

Didn't recommend due to lack of support, recommend because it's unnecessary.

Want to custom loop?  Ask me more if you are curious

Really? I thought it wasn't NVME though, not giving me the max benefit?

What do you mean lack of support? Do you even understand what you are talking about?

It is literally on the documentation of the motherboard.

On the motherboard page it says

"six SATA 6Gbit/s ports, 32Gbit/s M.2 and PCIe 3.0 lane speed support for faster data retrieval"

So would and extra $80~ dollars for the nvme?

NVMe requirements are:

-Z97 chipset or newer. Your motherboard uses H170 chipset which natively supports NVMe Protocol.

-M.2 with M-Key (PCIe signal) slot. Your motherboard has M.2 M-Key with PCIe 3.0 x4

I have to go right now, but if you could tell me if you would recommend spending another $80~ for the 960 pro then the 850 pro?

Not from the specifications I can find for the PC;

Storage

Up to 3TB SATA 6Gbit/s hard drive 7200RPM

Up to 256G SATA 6Gbit/s SSD drive

https://www.guru3d.com/news-story/asus-rog-g20cb-compact-gaming-desktop.html

Nor is there a need for an NVME drive for normal use, not going to see much of a difference unless working with large files

Get the 960 EVO instead because it is cheaper and uses the same NVMe protocol as 960 PRO.
