Holding case power button completely resets motherboard?

This has happened a few times, where if I hold my power button to hard shut down my computer, and I turn it on, everything is reset to default values. It doesn't happen all the time, but i'm concerned I may have defective equipment. 

 

My motherboard is a MSI z97 gaming 5

Would that be the most likely cause?

Because it only happens when i hold it down for a little longer after the pc shuts off.

Obviously, its more of an annoyance than anything serious right? Like it wont hurt to keep using it?

Dude, go into Windows power settings and set it to shut down when pressing the power button. Then you just tap it once and its off.

If you're holding the button because of a BSOD its your BOIS recovering (resetting) from a failed OC or something.

That's why im wondering about a defective part. i can replicate the issue everytime.

What values are resetting? Within bios, programs??

"Everthing" is supposed to reset when you reboot. Could be be specific, or do you nkot want help?

When i hold down the power button to hard shut down from windows, and i try to boot back up, my motherboard says "Default values" And i have to load my fan profiles and xmp up.
