Posted July 15, 2017 Hi, I have a Intel(R) Core(TM) I7-4790K CPU @ 4.00GHz But, its not at 4.00, its like 4.28 and higher, then lower then higher, and its never just 4.00ghz So I was wondering if it mattered if the cpu was locked at a current voltage or if it was unlocked. Would it have performance issues or would it be the same? Zambosoe, was here. Depending on the situation and the thermals, the CPU will "autoOC" itself, at least on the best core (not all at the same time) to a number between 4-4.0 Ghz. It is safe, and it is as expected to work. Just leave it be. Posted July 15, 2017 It matters in the sense that if it's higher on the same CPU, you will have more performance, but small GHz differences are normal. Your CPU goes faster when it needs to and can go slower if possible (to conserve energy and thus put out less heat) "We're all in this together, might as well be friends" Tom, Toonami. mini eLiXiVy: my open source 65% mechanical PCB, a build log, PCB anatomy and discussing open source licenses: https://linustechtips.com/topic/1366493-elixivy-a-65-mechanical-keyboard-build-log-pcb-anatomy-and-how-i-open-sourced-this-project/ mini_cardboard: a 4% keyboard build log and how keyboards work: https://linustechtips.com/topic/1328547-mini_cardboard-a-4-keyboard-build-log-and-how-keyboards-work/ Link to comment https://linustechtips.com/topic/807677-dose-cpu-speed-matter/#findComment-10144847 Share on other sites
