What causes temp spikes?

I'm running my 6700 on a 6500 stock cooler, and it occasionally spikes in intervals of like 5 degrees, from 60 to 65, then right back, is this just a flaw in MSI Afterburners monitoring or is it actually jumping like that? If yes, why? I imagine that its the heat sink running out of room to send the heat, or maybe the tiny fan having trouble pulling the heat off quick enough, so it backs up, causing spikes, or maybe I'm completely wrong and just an idiot. Anyway, It's not anything serious right? The highest I've seen it go is 71, some of my friends started freaking out, but I didn't know 71c was that dangerous, I think they are over exaggerating.

71C is nothing, and I wouldn't be concerned about 5 degree swings.  It happens just based on cores suddenly getting a bit of load from the OS.

If the cooler is having trouble with its job, you won't have spikes.

The processor is not throttling at 71Cº so it doesn't matter really... Also the 6700 stock cooler is the same cooler for the 6500 Intel doesn't change stock coolers depending the processor they all get the same, the TDP is the same between the i5 and i7.

71c is nothing, it's safe you are all good

Thanks all, I didn't think 71c was dangerous by any means, because intel proccessors can support up to 105c, of course I wouldn't go that high, but you know what I mean.
