I think the program that I used was called "Recuva". If it is the right name, then I reccomend that you do a deep scan - even if it says that it won't recover anything - because it recovered additional data.

If this was recent thing, PhotoRec is what I will recommend. Bit harder to use, but it did what I needed. Saved USB stick I thought I had lost.
