Tech companies to 'nerf' online services on July 12th in a bid to keep net neutrality

I'm not sure it'll make a difference with or without them. My friend has Time Warner (or Spectrum I guess they're trying to call themselves now) and despite their very very adamant claims that he isn't throttled, he still gets ridiculous pixelation and lag on anything he streams yet downloads Steam games at a solid 20MB/s. And of course content streamers themselves seem to throttle if too many people start watching. The companies are just ignoring the government then chalking it up to technical issues, and that's kinda hard to disprove when you're "actively trying to fix it" until the number of users on at the same time drop.

 

Still Trump's administration is about deregulation, getting rid of net neutrality is no surprise to me but I wouldn't mind it being in place. I guess it could end up being like sites that actively try to prevent adblock though, people just won't use them

National law supercedes private contracts. It would not take long for somebody to take their ISP to court and for the judge to declare that clause null and void.

Well I could technically go to court because my ISP throttles me which is still under NN rules but they have lawyer that would destroy anything you do

I stopped caring about Net Neutrality awhile ago, but if they want to protest by slowing down customers connections and annoying them to no end for a day.  Good on them.

Lots of reasons. When checking connection speeds on sites like YouTube and Netflix I get almost exactly 75% of what speed I am sold. Use a VPN and magically I get the speeds I'm sold. Websites like fast.com also show if you are being throttled.

Trust me I have been over this 10000X and after I grilled the tech support and got to a higher up native english speaker 3 minutes after my phone call I went from exactly 2500Kb/s to 10193Kb/s. It was like this ALL the time for 7 days. Until it dropped to 2500Kb/s within +-20Kb/s to places like youtube. I also made a chart of when they would ease the throttling past 11PM I got 3500Kb/s then at 4AM it would drop to 2500KB/s EXACTLY on the hour at 4. But simply renting a VPS for $21 a year is easier than taking a multi billion dollar company to court.

When the ISP's can afford to buy your government, it is a logical conclusion that they can afford to draw out any legal case until you are broke.  I doubt there are many people who can afford to take a legal case far enough to even hear a judges conclusion.

Grammar and spelling is not indicative of intelligence/knowledge.  Not having the same opinion does not always mean lack of understanding.
