Is the Aoyue 936 soldering station good for $50?

aSpoink

I am looking to get a soldering station and have come across the Aoyue 936 on Amazon for $50CAD. It looks to be a decent unit, but I can't find much about it as far as reviews go. Anyone have this station and can give me some advice? Thanks.

It's one of the Hakko 936 clones.

At that price, chances are that the seller lists it on Amazon but still ships it to you from China or Hong Kong (it's not "sold by amazon" or "fullfilled by amazon", it's just listed on amazon by third party seller).

You can find such Hakko 936 clones on eBay starting from around 35$.

I made a couple of  looooong post about these 936 clones here :

If you want something with warranty but still with easy to replace tips and everything, look at Newark.com for this one :  http://canada.newark.com/tenma/21-10115/soldering-station-esd-safe-60w/dp/56T2208

It's a rebranded Atten 938D or something like that, Tenma is Newark/Farnell's own brand. Nothing bad about it.  You can use the cheap tips you can buy everywhere (the hakko 936 / hakko 888 compatible tips)
