Is this PC secure enough?

Hello, title says it all here are my security stuff :D

 

OS: Windows 10 64 BIT


Firewall: Windows Firewall (Default settings)

 

Antivirus: Avira Free

 

Second Opinion Scanners: Hitman Pro,Malwarebytes FREE (Hitman Pro will end soon on the 24th so that temporary)

 

UAC: Maximum

 

Thanks! And is just Avira + Malwarebytes enough?

Yes, that's more than enough. I only use Windows Defender on my own PC, I feel most systems are more at risk from user errors than insufficient antivirus software.

 

Just remember no system is ever 100% secure, and if you have something invaluable on your computer always have a backup.

personaly i use Avast and malwarebytes, i pick avast seeing as its saved me from a few trojans before they could strike so its usefull if you are out on the web downloading stuff that has little legitamecy to back it up lol

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

as long as your not going to dodgy sites your fine. i have not run nothing for like almost 2 years using nothing but window defender with a malwarebyte once a blue moon

set admin password, create another user that doesn't have any privileges and use that for your daily browsing and gaimz

do monthly backups

I have to disagree with Avira. No matter if professional or free, it is still a piece of junk. And this is from many years experiencing problems with avira, not finding viruses, finding stuff as virus which wasn't etc...

 

Windows Defender in win 10 is enough with an Adblocker in your browser and some common sense.

 

For a now and then scanner try Dr. Web CureIT. It's an offline scanner, download and run and wait until finished. 

 

Where an adblocker in your browser and windows defender won't help, nothing else will, because then it's a pebcak problem.

I have uBlock adblocker, and I believe Avira is better than Windows Defender so I should be fine.

Never used an AV ever. Never had a virus too. Just don't download stupid stuff

Funny thing is I have used Avira since November last year, ads only appeared 3-4 times and I do not get them anymore :D

First the non pebcak explanation:

 

All virus scanners depend on their engines and patterns. If a new mutated virus comes around, they won't be able to find it. An Adblocker usually filters out enough bling from websites which sometimes try to install silently some malware/virus (happened even to me one time). So no matter what you bring on as defense, it is already a day old.

 

Second the pebcak explanation:

 

Every security is only so much worth as the user using it. Example I love you virus open the attachment et voila infected... Wannacry attachment, open it and infected.

If common sense fails, everything else will too in once a while. Pebcak = Problem exists between chair and keyboard.

Used the Avira Professional in the company I work for, and often had infections of old viruses like the so called "Bundestrojaner" which blocks your screen and tells you it will send everything to the police because pronography was found and it can be averted with paying some amount of money. And other ones. So from real life testing and using I can whole heartedly say... Avira sucks.

I think you understood that one...

Do create another user with minimal privileges.

Set password to your Administrator user and never use the Administrator user unless you absolutely have to like install some software or drivers.

And always use the user with minimal privileges instead.

No, because I do not think it is necessary since I do not go on shady websites. The only websites I go on are Youtube (Like 2 times a month), AMD, Battle.net, Avira and Steam. I check emails and download a lot of files only on my Mac.

It sucks because of detection rates? It has better detection than Windows Defender, Avast and Bitdefender so are those below bad?

Those Tests are in a controlled enviroment. Sometimes even sponsored when you look at the ads in the magazine that did the testing. 

 

I speak from real life knowledge, not tests. And there Avira is garbage. Trend Micro is even better.

 

Right now the best Anti Virus Software I know is Dr. Web the non free solution. The free one is just a "offline fire and forget" scanner to get rid of infections but not to prevent.
