I speak from real life knowledge, not tests. And there Avira is garbage. Trend Micro is even better.

 

Right now the best Anti Virus Software I know is Dr. Web the non free solution. The free one is just a "offline fire and forget" scanner to get rid of infections but not to prevent.

I'm pretty sure, this and ALOT of other test are not sponsored because some of them they prefer Avast over Avira because of its better Real time protection, I don't really need real-time protection since I barely download stuff or open emails on my Windows PC

You said that you didnt wanted to pay an antivirus, but if you consider a paid one try Kaspersky, it seems to be the best and this stuff is not expensive

This one in particular went on sale on newegg recently making it free (MIR) for the internet security one, but if you try you can find it for 10 bucks
