How do you factory wipe MAC OS X 10.6.8 on a MacBook Pro?

I tried pressing command + R and that did not work. Is there a way to install it via USB like you do it on windows? i just want to FORMAT and install 10.6.8 on a MacBook Pro. I dont have any CD to install it with.

Turn off your mac.

 

Turn it on again, when you lister the chime tone, press and hold the left alt button until you see the possible boot options.

 

Do you see the recovery partition?

there is no alt button on macs 

 

edit: i see one hard drive and its called Macintosh hd

shut the machine down and on start up hold down command and R

 

If this does not work something else is seriously wrong with the machine and you are going to be here a little longer to fix it.

OK i see. I know i need to get a installer of some sort. command r wont work. So i must need to download an installer. Can i create a bookable USB and boot from it to reinstall OSX?

Yes but I dont see why Command R isnt working. You reboot and hit command r as its booting up. If that isnt working you are likely going to run into more issues.

Have you done a PRAM and a NVRAM reset yet? Also reset the SMC

Make a USB installer (google it yourself) and plug it into your machine. 

Power it off. Hold option/alt key while booting back up, then select the USB installer and install a new OS on your machine. 

When you are booted into the installer, don't forget to format your HDD 1st, then install the newest OS on it.

Check what OS does your machine support. And get the latest one.
