Test Run CPU without Heatsink

Go to solution Solved by RadiatingLight,

don't do it.

most likely, nothing will happen, but I wouldn't risk it.

if you do it, then unplug as soon as it POSTs.

I just got my main components for my new 7820X bulid.

However, my CPU waterblock is still on the way, and I want to do a test run (checking if it turns on and turning it off after 5~10 seconds)

Will this kill my CPU? I'm scared but I want to test if all my parts are functional.

Thanks.

Someone tested a recent intel cpu, it functioned heavily throttling, but still not a good idea, there's a possibility your cpu could go kaputt

I won't recommend it.

Btw, why did you get a $600 CPU when threadripper is close to launch or why not Ryzen R7 1800X?

I had more than enough budget and I didn't want to wait another month since I don't have a computer ATM.

I wanted a CPU decently overkill for my needs and honestly I didn't really need a 7900X. (Would have bought it but went out of stock)

So I just got a 7830X..
