Very much possible, so long as an OS and monitor are not needed.

You can save even more money if:

Reuse the old case

Reuse the old hard drive if that's not dead

Reuse the optical drive

Reuse the case fans

May not be a popular opinion, but the $500 and lower segment has pretty tight margins for builders. So you may have better bang for buck getting a prebuilt and slapping in your own discreet graphics.

For example, this ASUS M32CD prebuilt packs a Core i5 6400, 8GB DDR4, 1TB HDD, Win10 for $320. If this is the 300W or the 500W unit, then a GTX 1050 Ti will be happy enough in this machine and still come in under budget.

Then there's this ugly Acer ATC710 with similar specs and a 2TB HDD, but for $270. I see they're built with a 300W PSU, which is enough for a GTX 1050 Ti and still be way under budget.

B150 board with g4560 isn't the best option, and why go the DDR3 route? And why an aftermarket CPU cooler?

Buy whatever product is best for you, not what product is "best" for the market.

Interested in computer architecture? Still in middle or high school? P.M. me!

I love computer hardware and feel free to ask me anything about that (or phones). I especially like SSDs. But please do not ask me anything about Networking, programming, command line stuff, or any relatively hard software stuff. I know next to nothing about that.

I just plucked a build from another topic to show it was possible and give a decent launch point :P
