Fastest would be a internal NVME PCIE SSD

Did you miss the word "external" in that sentence?

Linus has used both of these portable SSDs:

https://www.angelbird.com/category/portable-2/

http://www.samsung.com/semiconductor/minisite/ssd/product/portable/t3.html

I think the angelbird ones are faster but also larger.

Currently using a macbook air and i don't have much storage space left,

SSD have been proven for their high speeds and external hdd do not prove to give such high speeds and my best guess is to find an external ssd which will allow transfer of data as fast as well as writing,

macobok air consist of thunderbolt 2 and usb 3.0

any suggestions

Shop around for these:

Then put an mSATA SSD in it of your choice. I have one of these and it can sustain 500mbyte/s

that's pretty cool

i never saw this before

this is a better way i guess since the speed will still be maximum

ill have a look at it

thanks

Just be aware that these babies can get quite hot. I've had mine at 70C but I have an old power hungry SSD in it. Something modern should probably stay cooler.
