So my friend is having issues with his new laptop a week after buying it. His internet connection was fine at first, he played games flawlessly with good ping for someone living in Colombia. Recently, however, his internet connection has been acting up. He tells me that whenever he tries to connect to his network that it'll say there's no connection, followed by it working, then followed by it losing complete connection and not finding any connections available. This appears to be happening every time he tries to connect. He has another PC and the connection appears to be working fine on it, so he concluded it being a problem with the laptop itself. He says he has tried everything from uninstalling drivers and reinstalling them from turning the laptop off and on again. My knowledge of WiFi connections wasn't enough, so i resorted to you guys for help.

Below is information that might be useful to know. If I miss anything that might be useful for more help pinpointing the problem, please tell me so I can ask my friend.

  • Laptop Brand and Model: HP 14-r005la
  • WiFi Adapter: Ralink rt3290
  • Windows Diagnostic: IP Issue (Though he says he dealt with it using cmd, not too sure how it works)

Anyways, thank you for stopping and reading, and for any feedback you leave :3

Is this the only device having an issue with the wireless? If so he should return it or contact the manufacturer since it is new.

Yeah, it appears to be the only device that has that issue. It also appears that there's no returns on electronic devices from where he bought it. He might contact the manufacturer tomorrow since it's late for him at the moment.

If one of you have a USB wireless dongle, you might try that and see if that has issues.

Also, drivers are installed correctly right?

Yeah, the only time I've had issues with one device not being able to get in was when our router was dying...it would allow one PC on the network but show no connection for new devices...we had to replace the router and no issues since.

He lives in Colombia so I can't really lend him my USB adapter, but I suggested for him to purchase one, but I think that's sort of last resort if the computer remains the same.

Yeah, from what I have spoken with him it appears that drivers have been installed and reinstalled from the computer a few times.

We've not considered the router much since it appears to allow his other PC in, but after what you've said we'll take it into consideration, it might just be the issue.

Thanks for the reply :3
