Massive FPS loss in Minecraft

Ok, so I've run into a problem with Minecraft.  Whenever I play the game in windowed mode (1760x990), my average framerate is around 80 fps.  However, when I go into full screen mode (1920x1080), it drops down to an average framerate of 15-20 fps.  I know 1080p is a higher resolution than 990p, but it still isn't that big of a difference.  This is ridiculous!  Does anyone have a fix for this issue?  I've never run into this problem before.

i didn't play minecraft before but maybe you can try windowed mode with 1920x1080 and see if you still get this massive fps drop?
also do you mean by windowed mode as in full-windowed mode?

Fullscreen Off (1920x1080): 70-75 fps

Fullscreen On (1920x1080) 15-20 fps

(I know...it makes no sense...)

install optifine and report back

Changing the view distance did not fix the problem.  When fullscreen is on, the fps was sure to hover around 15-20.

 

In the past, Optifine always annoyed me, but I tried it anyway.  Found some awesome features in it that I didn't know about before, so I like it better now lol!  With fullscreen on at 16 chunks with Optifine, I am now getting ~55fps...using Intel HD Graphics 620.  Optifine is not using the GTX 950m.  Is this normal?

you need to go into the nvidea control panel and add a profile for minecraft, and set it for high performance
