I would consider doing a smaller, faster SSD, maybe something like an M.2 drive, for your OS and then another 120GB one for programs and games that you want fast access to. This way, the OS drive stays cleaner and healthier while still having the same amount of storage space for relatively the same cost.

You mean NVME M.2 SSD? I wouldn't recommend that actually. I think the smallest around is 120GB, which is severely overkill for OS only :D (unless he had few hundred dollars laying around and willing to spare more for extra SSD)

Besides, the time improvement is abysmal (<5s delta from SATA SSD), unless he is constantly moving huge files around which the benefits will show

M.2 is a form factor.

Assuming you mean an nvme/pcie ssd, most games dont benefit from them over a regular sata ssd.

Really just any SSD, doesn't matter what kind as long as it keeps the pricing around the same and still improves performance.
