Overclocking on a Intel mobo

Can I oc with a Intel DQ67SW Motherboard that has minimal heatsinks on vrms? Its a 2nd and 3rd gen LGA1155 socket and I have the options of upgrading a 2500 to the k version for $70 or 3570k for $100. which is a better value or should I just not bother? >.<

I'd get a 3570K, but I wouldn't overclock.

I could get the non k for cheaper, why not oc?

because that chipset doesn't support overlocking.

3570k is faster out of the box by quite a bit, fast single core as well. And Q67 cannot OC - it is not allowed on the PCH whatsoever. Maybe if you unlock BIOS.

The VRM's might not handle it well with heat. Having the extra performance is enough, IMO. 

Also, does your board allow overclocking? You can try a modest amount at a time while keeping an eye on your temps.

Overclocking is a hobby not just something extra you buy with a part. If you really want to get in to overclocking it will cost money and a lot or time.

I'm saving $40 by going non oc
