Just to power a motherboard, 2 sticks of RAM, i5-2500 and R9 295X2 with the GPU just itself being underload - stock speeds, the rest of the components idle/underclocked. No case fans, lights, blings, whatsoever.

Probably not, it's not uncommon to get the R9 295X2 using 500+ watts, I'd say a 700-750 watt would be better, and get a better quality PSU, look for the PSU tier list, pick something from tier 3 up as the R9 295X2 will batter it.

Well, while these caculators aren't always the most accurate, it recommends an 850 watt unit, which would be where my recommendation lands, but for the absolute lowest, 750 watts.

Two 295x2 on a 1000W bronze rated PSU:

http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/graphics-card-power-supply-balance,review-33071-5.html

and seems like XFX TS 650 isn't a bad PSU at all:

Since XFX also sells 295x2 you could hit their support asking if they have anything against running that card on the TS 650

295X2 is known to draw north of 500w under load. If you're mining... who knows. Even with everything else idle it's really cutting it close.

Make sure to quote me or tag me when responding to me, or I might not know you replied! Examples:

Interested in computer architecture? Still in middle or high school? P.M. me!

I love computer hardware and feel free to ask me anything about that (or phones). I especially like SSDs. But please do not ask me anything about Networking, programming, command line stuff, or any relatively hard software stuff. I know next to nothing about that.

Yea I was reading that TH's article. I'm thinking about just testing it considering my PSU's protective features should kick in if things go hazy, but then again even if I have a high tier PSU those protective features might still fail.

the PSU will probably handle it, it's a good unit, I wouldn't worry too much
