I am trying to find out what kind of horse power I need to run 3 x 2560x1440p monitors at medium to max settings and I just need a straight answer. I have been watching reviews and looking on tech sites and I am getting nowhere. I don't care how much it will cost.

Pushing quite a bit more than 4k there. Maybe 2x 1080 Ti at least. Maybe even two Titan Xp

Maybe a bit expensive... but he did say he doesn't care about the price. OP, if you want to play on high, you'll probs want a 1080 Ti or Titan X SLI.

Why 3x 16:9 1440p?

Why not 1x 21:9 1440p?

I want a surounded setup so if I was gonna go for an ultrawide I would want 2. plus having 3 seperate screens is better for productivity

Not even 2x SLi 1080ti will get you decent frames in some of the games at max settings when only using SINGLE monitor for 1440P 144hz. I can tell you this as a person actually using 1080ti in 2x SLi at this moment.

 

We are talking 1180ti/2080ti or 1280ti/3080ti level cards here.

 

Keep your expectations realistic. There is no hardware out there at the moment for what you want to do. Max setting 1440P triple monitor at 144hz gaming is not possible unless that game is so non-demanding that you are literally wasting money for playing that game with if such hardware exists, or is at a god tier optimization which does not exists this day and age.

Doubt a single card would be playable unless it's an easy game. A single 1080 can't even handle triple 1080p without turning stuff down. That's on old games too.

Ummm dual 1080 ti can't push decent frames on ONE 1440p display?  Your system is busted man...  Even a single 1070 can push decent frames in any game at 1440p. 

 

Also, are you suggesting he wait another 12 to 18 months for 1180 Ti?  That is not necessary.

I don't think Volta is worth waiting for.  Nvidia is likely to release the 1170 and 1180 first, then 1180 Ti 9 months later.  The 1180 might only be a little faster than 1080 Ti.  Keep in mind Volta is likely still on 16nm.  Performance increase will come in the form of architecture tweaks and larger die (more cuda cores).  I don't think we'll see the same leap as we did from Maxwell to Pascal.  I think it is safe to buy 1080 Ti right now.  I think 1080 Ti SLI is a good choice for OP.

My 1070 pushes 75 - 95 average fps at 1440p in the games I play (BF1, Paragon, etc).  I am using 165 hz display, but I still consider 75-95 fps to be in the range of 'decent frames'.  I would consider 120+ as ideal on a high refresh panel.  Perhaps we are just arguing semantics, but I think dual 1080 ti is way beyond 'decent frames'.

1080ti sli isn't  beyond anything on Surround 1440. Unless you like turning down settings. Only one current game I tolerate it's sub 100 fps and that's battle grounds. But it's still a pos ATM. So maybe they will get their act straight.

Quite likely.

 

There are games optimised well that will allow good frames to be pushed out, but unoptimised games like Ghost Recon Wildlands would only allow 70 fps average when you max out the settings. And we have to remember that more and more games are releasing at an unoptimised status and will quite possible never be fixed.

dual 1080 would be better especially when you consider that the titan xp only has like a 5% lead over the 1080ti and is practically not overclockable. even games with poor scaling will favour the dual 1080tis
