Surface Pro 4 For Students: 4gb vs 8gb RAM?

I am getting a Surface Pro 4 for school, but I can't decide between the 4gb and 8gb RAM model. Is the extra storage and upgraded ram worth the extra premium you have to pay, keeping in mind that I will be using it predominantly for school word processing and content consumption?

I won't be doing any editing, light gaming at most (CS GO, Civ, etc). I can go for the higher price, but only if absolutely necessary. I will also be getting the type cover regardless of which model I buy.

Can the 4gb model hold its own in performance, and at least for a couple of years down the road as well? The extra storage is really just an added bonus, because I can get an external hard drive if it really comes down to it.

Thanks!

Get a laptop. That you can put on your lap.

Is there a reason you need a surface? Do your draw? Otherwise a laptop will serve you much better.

The  4gb one should be sufficient for your pourposes. If you get the 8gb one you might get a few more years of use out of it. imm not sure is upgradable but if so go with the 4gb and upgrade it if you need to in the future. For word processing and browsing 4 is enough but if you want to do heavy multitasking 8 is a consideration.

Thanks!

I would recommend the asus zenbook pro for college. It's just the best laptop you can get at that $1500ish price point. It has a 4K color accurate display, an NVME drive, GTX 1050 or 1050ti, and two Thunderbolt 3 ports. If you have to step down below that, I would recommend the HP spectre or the Razer Blade stealth. Just make sure that whatever laptop you get, it has thunderbolt 3.

I do draw quite a lot and we still have to do a lot of handwriting in my classes.

I mean for handwriting paper. The surfaces aren't good at slow lines and are better at broad strokes. keep that in mind, but yes they make a good drawing tablet otherwise. So yea in that case you have a reason to buy one and take the drawbacks it has.
