So this is the build im planning to get https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/K2N2wV

i did a little more research and i found that getting a gtx 1080 is only 100$ ish more. https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/h4LB6X

Is it worth it to get a gtx 1080. Im already on a tight budget. Is the performance worth another 100$

While the GTX 1080 is worth it, your monitor is a very poor choice, to begin with up to 24 inches it is a 1920x1080p resolution, you're getting much more pixel density than you need to make any sense while also limiting your refresh rate to only 60hz (and this monitor does not overclock).

So yes I do think your build can fit a GTX 1080 sweetly however not with the monitor you chosen.

Spend less on the case, less on MOBO.

Im not sure how that PSU holds up, someone else should be able to tell you.

Just for the sake of things, i would recommend atleast a 650watt PSU for a 1080 and a 1600(If you OC both).

No need I helped a mate build a system using the 1600 and 1080 and a Seasonic 520w was enough.

well, if you want to run max settings in the most demanding games today at 1440p 60fps the 1070 won't quite get you there, it just gets me there at 1080p even with a good OC. if max settings aren't a requirement to you (since 1440p is inherently nicer looking) the 1070 should be fine

Those seasonic 520's have 2x8 pins? or was it a 1x8 1x6 pin 1080?

@Jrock It was an EVGA Founders Edition with only a 1x8 pin.

pixel density of the screen size of 24 inches and lower is a 1920x1080p resolution while 2560x1440p is a 27 to 32ish inches resolution, you're paying more for something that will provide you graphical benefit.

To short 2560x1440p on 23 inches is as pointless as buying a TITAN Xp for 1080p60hz.

OP, people are trying to help you. Dont be rude.

Hes saying you will benefit from a 1080p@144Hz display better than 1440p@60 on a 24 inch...

Personal experience here, at 1080p the 1070 is barely pushing 60 fps in the most demanding games, like ghost recon wildlands, so at 1440p you'd either be under 60 fps or have to drop a few settings but as I already said it should look fine on a 1440p monitor. The point that up to 24" there's not much of a benefit to going 1440p does have merit, if you got a good 24" 1080p monitor the 1070 would be enough to handle everything I know of maxed out, but in the end it's your money, your decision
