So I'm building a PC for a friend.

CPU: i5-7500

Motherboard: MSI B250m Bazooka
Memory: 2x4 Corsair LPX 2666

Graphics: Zotac 1070 Mini

PSU: FSP Hexa+ 450w

Hdd: WD Blue 1TB

I intend to make all these run with a BenQ 144hz monitor. Will there be bottlenecking issues?

If I have to improve the CPU, how far do I have to go, or should I favor Ryzen?

Games played by him currently: Overwatch, Unknown Players Battleground, Battlefield

It will bottleneck it at 1080p, get an 7700k.

Please quote our replys so we get a notification and can reply easily. Never cheap out on a PSU, or I will come to watch the fireworks.

Bottleneck at 144 hz. go for a r5 that is OCed with REALLY fast RAM 3200+ or a 7700k

I play OVW and PUBG on my i5-6500/980 Ti combo, basically the same thing. Don't expect 100FPS+ for PUBG as that game isn't that fully optimized yet, you'll be fine with 140FPS+ in OVW as long you play at medium/high as I get around 100-120FPS Ultra.

My i5-6500 is OC'd to 3.4GHZ Turbo with 3600MHZ ram anyway...

Alright, But what if budget is an issue?

An OC'ed R5 with fast ram, but an 7700 would be ideal for consistent 144 fps.

Not really sure If I want to recommend a person new at this to try OCing his build, but I will recommend this.

So just to confirm, the 7500 will bottleneck but it's still breaking 100+fps on most games?

It should, yes (OC'ing isnt that hard though, hard to break anything if reasonably careful).

Don't expect PUBG to get 100+FPS anytime soon since it's not full optimized yet.

It would help to OC a little, but as OP stated, they may not want to OC and have budget restrictions.

No that 3 phase VRM can die in a hole.

Will probably go with the Ryzen 1600x. As for Mobo, i'll look up a little more with your advice in mind.

By the way, is the Memory suitable? 2666mhz LPX.

Also, FSP Hexa+ is decent enough right?

Although this video is like 30 mins longs. It is VERY comprehensive and will tell you all you need to know

And for the ram just buy that one and then overclock it urself or go straight for 3200. THey are not v ery expsive.

TBH if you're aiming for high fps I'd say the 7700K is still the best option. Currently.

Again, check sig to see how poor value the i5 is.

R5 has yet to mature, it's making strides, but I can't fully endorse it for high fps yet.

EDIT: Also, putting a 7700K on a B250 board isn't all that stupid. It has the benefit of being clocked higher already.
