Phone unlocking/locking question thing

Okay so i know you can unlock a phone from a specific GSM carrier but how can i lock it  I'm just curios

Why!

AFAIK the IMEI of the device is stored with a carrier so they have control of the phone, There may be a way with software but that depends on the phone

Apple does it through their activation server and other companies do it through firmware. 

 

You really can't lock a phone.
