Hello. I have a 256GB 2016 base MacBook Pro and I want to install Windows 10 so I can play more of my games on the go.

While I can play games like world of warships decently enough, performance in MacOS will always be inferior until Apple adopts a better graphics API than OpenGL or Metal.

What this all comes down to is Storage space. 256GB is not a lot to work with.

What I need to know is how much space does a clean Windows 10 install take up? From there I can see what I want to do or just abandon the idea and stick to MacOS gaming.

Thanks!

it will depend, with a clean install, 20gb for a 64bit OS

It builds up pretty quick though.  There is a lot more to Windows than is what is in C:\Windows.   All the restore points, the hibernation and page files, etc. are stored outside of that directory.  My restore points alone are 10.2GB.  The hibernation and page files are 8.8GB.  Then you've got all the files in AppData, which are on your C directory no matter what drive you install programs.

You can reduce the pagefile and restore point size without much work, but you still need to plan for more than 20GB.

100GB would be a minimum i would recommend for a working system.

How big are the programs?  Just for Windows without any programs, you'll need around 30GB.

Try 70GB then.  You need some free space for Windows to function properly.  You should be able to adjust the partition size as necessary.

I do own an application that allows me to resize the bootcamp partition from back when I used my 2011 iMac. But MacOS cannot do it natively.

For something that is a paid product, I would agree. If it was free then it is kind of understandable

I have Hackintoshed before but it was unstable so I just gave up and stayed with Windows
