Yes, an SSD generally makes computers boot way faster. If the PC is healthy and it's not a software or hardware problem, then you should see a massive performance boost for most loading/boot times. How long is it taking to boot now?

EDIT: And (at least in the US) you can get a 120GB Kingston HyperX SSD for $56 on Amazon. Mine took ages to ship, but it's here finally, and I'll be fresh installing Windows on it ASAP.

I agree with the above answers. As long as it is not a hardware or software issue, upgrading to a decent SSD, such as a Samsung 850 Evo, will make your kids computer MUCH faster.  I had a 2TB 7200 RPM HDD until about a year ago. When I upgraded to my 850 Evo, my boot times went from ~1 minute to 10-15 seconds.

just get a 120gb... life with a 60GB SSD is hell on earth unless you spend half your time cleaning shit off of it... i had one for 2-3 years and it was the worst thing ever, 120GB i can live with, i even have a 120GB SSD as my only drive in my school lapotp.

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

Don't forget, since the OS will be on the SSD while the rest of your applications and games are on the HHD, that only the boot time will improve.  Since the rest of your software will be loading from the secondary drive (the HHD), then the time it takes for that software to load will not typically improve.

If you have to save for a while, like I did along with a lot of others, when possible get a Samsung Evo Pro 512 or something equivalent, then you can install your games as well as the OS onto the SSD.  That way everything will greatly improve.

Doing it this way greatly improved my overall loading times for everything, just not the OS.

Good Luck.
