Monitor testing

zys5945

Hello, I'm thinking to buy some second handed monitors, but I'm not sure what / how I should test them?

1) Dead pixels

Best way I can think of is show a full screen completely white image. Try to get the contrast on the monitor up a bit, then the dead pixels should stick out like a sore thumb. Also cycle through several different solid background colors.

2) Listening to back of monitor, especially while switching inputs or turning off/on, is good for listening for bad capacitors. You will hear a high pitched whine.

3) Make sure all the inputs work

4) Physical status - scratches, dings, etc

5) Color uniformity. Have test videos ready, or search youtube for things like RGB Test
