B350, no SLI.

Check X370 boards.

Mine hasn't even malfunctioned yet. I've never heard of a catastrophic failure of an AIO liquid cooler on these forums, and if there's any failure to those things, they happen after a few years of use after purchase in a normal use case.

 

You can use an air cooler on them. The ones that are big will work better than the smaller ones in exchange for height clearance from board to case panel, and RAM clearance.

Best place is on the manufacturer's page for the air cooler in question.

PC Part Picker can't do the clearance potential, I think measuring it manually from the real size written in the specs

My friends and other reviews just say "ram is ram" and that speed isn't that important. Myth or truth?

RAM frequencies are actually impacting on GTX 1080 system and Ryzen system, on ryzen it has problem on touching 3200, but on GTX 1080 it goes better

Here is a build that costs much less featuring the r5 1600, going a tier down.  ~$1050

There are many other options for a b350 mother board or even going x370 might be something you want with a slight increase in budget.

With a good overclock the 1600 ( which is achievable on the stock cooler with high fan speed)is a really good cpu for around 200 dollars that can do what you asked for, video editing and light gaming.

For light gaming a RX 480/580 or 6gb 1060 is better for  games at 1080 , but since you do light gaming then going with 1060 3gb will save money with rebates that bring it down to $150 which lowers the price to $850.

I've been able to get high ram speeds at 3200 with a vh51 beta bios released on the tomahawk motherboards.

I'm Loving that board as I currently own it in my rig.

With the constant bios updates, I was able to achieve good ram speed and compatability.

I goes nice in a white case and has good components.

The only thing that might be a con is the 10 sec post time and the "OK" bios ui.

Get R7 1700.

 

Just get any DDR4 3000 or 3200 thats Corsair LPX or G Skill Ripjaws IV/V

Get 1700 then do minor OC to 1800X speeds. Get a slightly better PSU because might as well. There is a 550W SeaSonic G series on sale for 50 dollars. 80+ Gold.

I know this isn't the power supply forum, but what does fully modular vs semi vs not modular actually mean? And how does it affect my system?

Fully modular:all PSU cables can be unplugged (even the important ones)

 

Semi-Modular:only some cables that can be unplugged

 

Not modular:no cables can be unplugged

 

The PSU cables can block your Airflow in the case, and makes your components hotter. I recommend you the PSU in my signature below
