Hey so I'm putting together a list of parts for my first build, and I can't decide between an i7-7700K 4.2 GHz quad core and an i7-6800K 3.4 GHz 6 core. Which one is better for video editing and multitasking in general?

 

Also the 6800K is yelling at me saying this: "Some Intel X99 chipset motherboards may need a BIOS update prior to using Broadwell-E CPUs. Upgrading the BIOS may require a different CPU that is supported by older BIOS revisions." 

Can someone explain this? I want the ASRock X99 Extreme4 ATX mobo.

Get the Ryzen 7 1700. It blows both out of the water in multithreaded tasks.

1. 6800k would be better than a 7700k in editing and streaming 

2. The error can be ignored as almost all x99 mobo already comes with latest bios to support Broadwell E, in this case i7 6800k

 

R7 1700 costs less and performs similarly to a 6800k / 6900k in content creation so I would get that instead

I'll be doing mostly video editing with some light gaming, maybe some music editing as I'm going to college for music

You might want to look at a Ryzen 5 1600 then as it will be better for video editing.

What's the difference between the 7 1700 and the 5 1600 in terms of specs?

Then get R7 1700. It will last longer due to having more threads and AM4 will be active for 4 more years so even if you need to upgrade you can upgrade to the newest thing. X99 and LGA 1151 are pretty much dead.

R7 1700 is 8 core 16 thread, ~$320

R5 1600 is 6 core 12 thread ~$250-260

Also, In case you need more storage, you can get a 2TB Hard Drive for around 70 dollars.

I've heard that liquid cooling can be messy if it malfunctions so I'd like to avoid it for my first build if I can. Or is Ryzen too hot for fans/heat sinks? Also I don't need that intense of a graphics card haha but again, I appreciate the help

Yes when water cooling died they start to "infect" other components so whole pc can be damaged

 

Ryzen is better on thermal performance than i7

Never heard that much of ram slots except in X99 slot
