Zalman ZM-1 vs Antlion Modmic 4.0 Test (Mobo vs Sabrent USB)

Zweihander

What do you guys think? What sounds best?

For $6 there is a noticeable difference with the Sabrent USB soundcard.

Sounds better in both instances using the Sabrent soundcard. The ModMic obviously sounds better, but the Zalman clip-on is a lot cheaper.

Yes, I was thinking the same.

Considering the Antlion costs roughly $50 and the Zalman $10 ... with the option to include the $6 soundcard; it's almost a no brainer.

Do you want a $16 dollar microphone, or do you want a $56 dollar microphone that only sounds SLIGHTLY better.

Depends how elegant you want the solution to be, if you've got money to spare, and how long you want it to last; the ModMic will (probably) last longer than the Zalman would in most cases. Just because the cheaper solution does the job fine doesn't mean the more expensive ones won't be desirable!

Very true.

This is mostly for voice chat w/ friends on Discord. Nothing too elegant there ...

Unless you're in a chatroom full of women and want to sound like "not a 12-year old"?

I don't think I sound anything like a 12-year old.

Thanks for the laugh!

I've owned both. The antlion isn't worth the price. Zalman broke on me after a while. Went to the antlion and it got in the way a lot, quality sucked. Eventually just got a blue yeti, you can get a blue snowball ice cheaper than the antlion.

I acutally had a snowball for about a week. Probably posistioned poorly on my desk, as it wasn't providing the best quality sound (sounded far away).

I returned it to place of purchase. Just wish I had tried plugging into a source other than my MB. There is noticeable noise on MB connections.

Maybe next time it's on sale I'll do another video test review of the three options as a comparison.

Most likely wasn't close enough and boosting the volume in windows made it sound noisy. Its why I got the yeti over it, for the settings.

If I had to choose one or the other, I'd go with the zalman. The antlion's premium isn't worth it.

This is about how I feel at this point.

I just can't justify the cost considering it only sounds slightly better and it will get in the way (unlike the ZM-1).
