Intel Core i5-7600K OR AMD Ryzen 5 1600?

Go to solution Solved by Doritojoe,

Well seems like i have been surrounded, RYZEN it is everyone, Thank you for responding to this thread and all the help!

Alright so here we go, i am going to be upgrading my awful amd fx 6300 Build, And i am trying to decide between the new i5-7600k or the Ryzen 5 1600, I am on a strict $250 dollar budget for my CPU, Now the Ryzen has 2 more cores, But i have seen alot of people with I5's that perform better and they have 2 less cores, I am a complete noob at this have only been PC building for 3 years now, Also i will be overclocking as much as i can with what ever processor i get.

The 7600K will be better at gaming, the 1600 will crush it anywhere else.

Not really. They trade blows for games at averages, but R5's frame times and 0.1% lows are much better. And if OP did ever want to do anything multi threaded, Ryzen would obviously crush the i5 (Games are also starting to leverage more cores, will help more in the future).

The i5 does still beat the R5 in most games, but I would personally still go for the Ryzen chip.

Yeah he's right, additional information that Ryzen boosts with RAM too (in case of the OP doesn't know this)

And also the intel processor can overclock easily (I see them above 4GHz), but still the Ryzen does best (I think more cores means less overclocking?)

I think you can choose between these options:

  1. Get 1 stick of 8GB RAM and get the same stick later (I suggest sooner)
  2. Get 2 sticks of 8GB RAM and Dual Channel System is ready

So based on what i have seen, AMD goes well with more ram, And the i5's do better with less?

RAM speed on Intel is pointless (except when your GPU is GTX 1080 and above), but infinity fabric (that's the technology of AMD RAM boost) makes high frequency RAM helps Ryzen

Its not really the amount of ram, but the speed. Intel will still see small gains (Barely a few FPS, not worth above 2666 really), but Ryzen is what will see the speed benefit (More ram will allow you to do more with your PC).

Are they having thermal issues with the i5?

Ok, then -Ryzen 5 1600 vs i5-7600K/6600K- solved! Now Ryzen 7 1700 vs i7-7700K vs i7-5820K

OP please dont get the intel chip. Maybe 5-10 FPS better but with a low end GPU you wont notice any performance difference+ the minimums are way higher on the ryzen.

Psst, how much is Intel's maximum voltage?

Depends if OP is planning to OC, will have no issues otherwise. If he is, it should still be reasonably manageable (With a good cooler), but still important to be aware that even Intel is telling consumers not to OC Kabylake. Would still say Ryzen is the better buy here though (No one should be paying over $200 for a quad core now).

And with selling thing worth of $100 you can afford the i7-5820K competitor, Ryzen 7 1700
