High speed memory on Ryzen 5

If it's supported then yes.

Edit: Switching to XMP profile is a must step

All RAM will work at the base frequency (2166) out of the box. You will have to bring things up to speed in the bios/uefi and then make sure it's stable. There's no grantees(even for validated RAM) that it will work at its rated speed.

I've heard there have been issues with the MSI Ryzen boards.  Even their so called premium boards are not very premium.  I've heard the Asus Prime x370 is much better and should support high speed RAM.  My brother just ordered one with some 3200 mhz GSkill Flare ram, not sure if it works as parts have not arrived yet.

Most board have two column: supported speed and base speed

The problem with Ryzen is that not all high speed memory will work

I'm running a Ryzen 1800x with flare-x at it's rated speed of 3200 x16gig on an ASUS Crosshair with no problems without XMP I don't see why x8gig would not work.

Because the flare-x if its the one I think it is, is made specifically for ryzen

All ram will work at its rated speed eventually. Just get the fastest ram you can afford, don't worry about timings. I finally got my non QVL Gskill RGB ram running 3200mhz yesterday after 2 months by simply running XMP, DDR Volts at 1.5v and SOC at 1.25v. There is another bios coming soon using AGesa 1006 which offers upto 4000mhz ram speed. I suspect memory compatibility will be an issue for a couple more months but I would honestly just get the fastest you can afford, I wish I had got 3600mhz now

That is correct I first put in 32gig of 3200mhz ripjaw and it started out running at 2400 stable but every bios update I was able to move up 1 level per update to 29xx by the last update on my MSI board.
