I wish to purchase a router instead of renting the stock one off of comcast, any suggestions?

Comcast supplied Modem/Router Combos. So you will need another combo or a modem and router. Modem Wise I see the SB6183 suggested. Router wise, Im not sure as Im still using an old router myself.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

Router, because I'll need the wi-fi signal. Modems are just for hardlines correct?

No the modem is what gives you access to the Internet. So unless you want to continue paying Comcast $10 a month, you need a modem.

Nah, the modem is like a wireless router with no AP, no router and only one ethernet port. Its the thing that converts DOCSIS/VDSL/ADSL to ethernet.

Don't you just use an Ethernet cable to connect the router into the internet box provided by the internet company or is it an all-in-one solution?

*I know it has a name, the service provider fibre to Ethernet thing, I just forget, isn't it modem or something?

xD

Yeah, but here in the states. Ass hole ISP's make you pay a rental charge for a modem if they supply it. We can buy our own and save money.

Modems are what give access to the internet in most households unless you're still using dial-up.

I would ask what the rental fee is before buying one since you'll have to ask what protocols are used, though I believe most modems are using all current protocols these days.

Depends on the ISP. BHN only charges $6 so it would take me nearly 15 months to see my investment back.
