I am building my first rig over the summer and was deciding on the GPU and ended up with 1070/1080 ( though might change my mind if Vega comes bf I buy)  depending on basically what I have left in the summer (probably 1070)

However , there seems to be like 5 or so brands that are popular around and I really don't know what should I get.

I trust Asus because of my previous experience with them and this is why I am leaning towards the STRIX 1070 OC and it looks great.
But I would like to know what's the difference between it and others that people buy such as the
GALAX HOF 1070
ZOTAX 1070 AMP EXTREME

GIGABYTE  1070 Xtreme Gaming

Like is it purely cosmetic or some of them are just flat out better and more reliable that others ?

All opinions are appreciated

Honestly, get whichever is the cheapest, i got a windforce gtx 1070 with dual fan andits great

Well that doesn't make much of a difference ; your answer makes sense and it makes me think about looks more than anything else

Thanks anyway

you need to check actual clock size of all these with in brands whichever have more clock at base setting buy that one with oc model

Idk if that does help since all of them are like base clock of 1.6X so the difference between 1.61 and 1.66 is not what is gonna help me choose

Thanks for your input anyway

when i have time i will try to oc more to see how far i can go

probably not too far from 2155

Seems great and the silence will be appreciated since the PC will be fairly close to me and I will probably be letting it run 24/7 for a lot of days and wouldn't want problems and the OC sounds great

Thanks a alot and let me know if u manage to get it past the 2155

1070 is overpriced, you really should try and get a 1080.

It seems to be slightly overpriced but it also doesnt have any similar cards in its range. Moreover, I don't really know how much money I will have for the GPU at the end and the 1080 is lke at least $150  more than 1070 and I can't really justify the 1080  much since am unlikely to have anything over 1080p for the near future and even at 1440p I am not convinced that I need the 1080

Seems you have very good cooling setup going on
What's your case and cooling setup if you don't mind me asking ?

Thanks again , I am seriously considering the ZOTAC

I am no expert but is the .05 really gonna make that much of a difference in any real-life situation other than benchmarks ?

Any differences you find in 1070s are purely arguments over minor details. As far as working ability - they are all quite similar.

CPU R7 3800X    Motherboard Asus Prime X370 Pro  RAM  24GB Corsair LPX 3000 (at 2933Mhz)    GPU EVGA GeForce RTX 3070 XC3 SC  Case Phanteks Enthoo Pro M

Storage 1 x 1TB m.2 (Windows), 1x 500GB SSD (Linux Mint), 1x 4TB SSD (for data Samsung 870) PSU Corsair RM1000  Cooling deepcool ak620(? probably)

Synology NAS 2 x 8TB

the one with .05 clock will overclock more

what is actually you are looking for then ?

I  know but ultimately even after OCing the difference will never be more than 100 Mhz , so it isn't the deciding factor for me.

Nevertheless thanks for your input

The main difference between the cards is the cooling and noise output. Otherwise, they will all perform roughly the same. The card's overclocking ability is entirely dependent on the silicon lottery.

There's no particularly "bad" aftermarket GTX 1080 that I can recall of but the ASUS STRIX and the GALAX HOF are both very good cards.

Same conclusion I  reached , was just making sure that none of them have like any glaring issues with them that would make me regret buying one

the Galax card is bound to have the best VRM, but honestly id just get the cheapest one you like the look of the most, they will all preform just about the same and for overclocking its down to the silicon lottery how much you can OC

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)
