Grab a R5 1600 + GTX 1080 instead. Nobody should be buying locked quad cores.

Be nice to each other boys and girls. And don't cheap out on a power supply.

I agree with r5 in this case locked i5 are not priced competitively and the r5 will be more "future proof" since games seems to be going for more threads lately and Ryzen is getting more and more smooth / free of quirks (pretty close to perfect at this point). and then get the best GPU you can fit in your budget.

Primary System

  • CPU
    Ryzen R6 5700X
  • Motherboard
    MSI B350M mortar arctic
  • RAM
    32GB Corsair RGB 3600MT/s CAS18
  • GPU
    Zotac RTX 3070 OC
  • Case
    kind of a mess
  • Storage
    WD black NVMe SSD 500GB & 1TB samsung Sata ssd & x 1TB WD blue & x 3TB Seagate
  • PSU
    corsair RM750X white
  • Display(s)
    1440p 21:9 100Hz

Crystal clear, i7 7700 + GTX 1070.

You can upgrade your GPU in 2-3 years, but with an i5, you WILL ha ve to upgrade the CPU when you upgrade your GPU.

i5 bottlenecks a GTX 1080 already, especially in 1080p.

It is very important, when you buy a new platform, to have any kind of futureproof for your CPU. Think about what happens in 4-5 years, when you upgraded your GPU 2 more times. The i5 bottlenecks today already in some games, it will bottleneck even harder the stronger the GPU power will get.

i7 7700 is the Minimum you should go for with your Moniutor, in order to keep your Frames high.

i5 is no longer recommendable at all btw... Noone, especially no Gamer, should buy an i5 anymore, period.

Either i7, or Ryzen 5 1600~. MUCH better choice.
