My psu 24 pin is shorted, will my warranties cover this?

Hello! I found out that my 24 pin cable for my Corsair AX860i is shorted. While using the selftest button on the unit with the 24 pin cable only plugged in on the PSU end it shorts out. The other circuits are okey though, it only happens with the 24 pin cable. Sadly it took down my motherboard with it and I want to know if anyone knows anything about warranties and what can/will/could be covered.

The PSU has a 10 year warranty, I bought it about 4 years ago. Thanks for the answers in advance ;)

I'd contact the manufacturer and explain that the motherboard and PSU were taken out. Have you tried another PSU? Was there a storm?

No storm or bad weather, I was just using my computer like normal until the screen went black, it kept trying to reboot. A2 error, my motherboard cant read any drives atm. I checked the drives with another computer they are intact and no dataloss. I`ve tested the motherboard with another PSU, it tries to boot, but since the whole sata bus isnt working I couldnt get my computer up and running again. Meanwhile with my first PSU it wont even start with the 24 pin cable just in the psu and not connected to a motherboard, it behaves in typical short circuit fashion, it starts and I can audibly hear a fuse shut the unit down to prevent damage.

I would mention all of this as you go through your RMA. Ask if the motherboard can be covered under the warranty (not likely) and contact your motherboard's manufacturer if it isn't.

Contact MSI, they may be able to help you out with another Z77 board.

As with any RMA, please let us know how it goes. A little more info on ease of use, handling time, and general helpfulness is always good to have as a community, i.e. a "painful 20-30 days and I received a downgrade" is just as valuable as a "painless 20-30 days sidegrade".

Is there a dedicated section for that kind of documenting on this forum?

I would like to say Member Reviews or General Discussion... Maybe @GoodBytes or @wkdpaul know which is best.
