Possible 1440p cards

I'm going to build my first PC and I want to play at 1440p, I have seen that the GTX 1070 can easily push that resolution but I also saw that the RX 580 could do it as well. From a purely budget standpoint what would be the better card, or should I wait for vega?

wait for vega, the 1070 will be much better than rx580 at pushing 1440p 60 fps.

Off the top of my head, I'd say the RX580 8GB as more VRAM will help at a higher resolution. I believe they are pretty well matched on the brute power side. 

 

EDIT: Oops! Never mind what I just said, I thought you were talking about the 1060. The 1070 is better for 1440p than the 580.

1070 can do 1440 60 fps ultra, 580 would need lower settings.

people say 1070 is better than 580, of course it is, it costs $200CAD extra lol

 

Don't mistake the 580 as a weak gpu, it can handle most games at 1440p at 60 fps with medium/high settings. I play Resident Evil 7 on a 580 @1440p with medium shadows and AA and the rest high and I get 80-90 fps. If you can do without those taxing settings, and from a budget standpoint, the 580 is so worth its money.

 

On the other hand, spending an extra $200CAD and get better performance, you don't say, lol, it's common sense

as someone who has a 1070 and has played a variety of games at 1440p, i can tell you that it doesn't run 1440p60 at ultra at everything. there's even some that cannot run at high (but i can get 60fps if i drop some settings to medium, others to high - or some settings to high, and others to very high). the 1080 or 1080ti will do better at 1440p+

Vega is very close to full announcement - so best to see what the pricing and performance is on those. 

 

The cheapest Vega card will be the Vega Core which given the pricing of the RX500 polaris cards, I would expect will be priced around the same as a GTX1070 - so you'll probably want to see what performance/price is like vs the GTX1070.
